Poetry and Code Anthology Project

An executable code poem by GreyLau
Welcome to the "Poetry and Code Anthology Project," a digital poetry anthology curated by the students in ENGL 215 Text & Code at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Spring 2022).
This anthology is the culmination of coursework and discussion exploring some of the following questions:
- How does poetry function as a kind of code?
- How can digital environments enhance the conceptual and formal work of poetry?
- What does it mean for a video game to feel poetic?
- How does poetry invite us to interact with it, and what kind of interactivity spectrum might we imagine for different kinds of poetry?
- How does it change our understanding of both poetry and code to think about them as intersecting modes of practice?
- How is poetic form related to "formula," and what kinds of formulas are possible in poetry?
About This Project
For each section of this anthology, a group of students selected four poems around a central question. Students then annotated each poem in order to draw out how its language and formal features related to that question. Another group of students, the Digital Production Team, developed this website to curate the poems and annotations together in this digital space.
The Spring 2022 ENGL 215 class was taught by Prof. Whitney Sperrazza. Kevin Iskandar, Stuart Nevans Locke, and Kaitlyn Reinbold edited, designed, and built this digital anthology website.
